In order to strengthen citizens' security and improve the state's ability to warn the public in a timely manner in various situations of danger, the crisis Management Centre held an inter-institutional meeting on April 2, assessing the response capacity of the services and discussing practical solutions for more effective coordination between them.
Particular attention was paid to the use of cell broadcasting as one of the most important tools for alerting citizens to various threats (extreme weather, disasters, external hazards, drones, etc.). Arvis Zilis, Head of the crisis Management Centre, stresses: “We cannot exclude that drone incidents experienced in Latvia and the Baltic States in recent weeks will be repeated in the future, while Russian aggression against Ukraine continues. . As a society and services, we must accept the new reality and prepare as best we can for such cases so that their impact on our daily lives is minimal. "
participants in the meeting stressed the need to improve information to citizens in cases of rapid threat. . In the event of potential air hazards, residents must seek shelter inside the building or stay indoors, close windows and doors, avoid approaching an object on the ground, and report 112. At the same time, there is a call not to increase disinformation about what happened on social media and in communications on channels, but to trust official sources.
inter-institutional coordination and responsible response by each sector to incidents occurring within it, acting in a timely and responsible manner in today's situation, is particularly important, since tackling the threat requires a cross-cutting approach. . During the meeting, participants agreed on further steps, including a more precise allocation of responsibilities among the institutions involved, as well as necessary regulatory and methodological improvements. m.. At the same time as the cell broadcast notification, public communication must be ensured.
